Meet Tom Bencho
I grew up in McKees Rocks, with a Catholic upbringing. I remember feeling God’s presence at such a young age while attending St. Cyril Elementary School and always knew he was with me and protecting me as I journeyed through life. McKees Rocks is an area that is poor and struggling with resources. I am passionate about giving back to this community. I have served as President of the Sto-Rox Little Vikings for 7 years. This position has forced me to utilize many of my skill sets such as Honesty, Integrity, Independent Decision Making as well as Group Synergy. Because of the socioeconomics of this neighborhood, I have learned much about the importance of diversity and embracing our differences. Once I left McKees Rocks, I went to Robert Morris University. I became a flight attendant for 18 months not knowing why this pathway. During this time, God showed me humility and the ability to serve others. “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Phil 2:3-4 During my obedience, I realized the other blessing that God had planned was the ability to fly free with my elderly dad to Croatia, Italy, Slovakia, Prague, Budapest, and Australia before he passed away in 2017. In 2003 I became President and CEO of a successful Mortgage Company/Business that I created “Aurora Marketing Services” for 11 years. During that time I was negotiating real estate deals and contracts both nationally and internationally. I have acquired numerous properties and at that point in my life, God was reminding me about the trap of self-sufficiency and how the material things of the World could not satisfy me like Jesus Christ. I left the business to my son TJ of whom I am very proud. TJ has blessed us with three beautiful grandsons ages ranging from 6 – 11.
What is next God? In October 2017, I was fortunate enough to run into a girl that I had a crush on since elementary school, my current wife, Shelly. She strongly encouraged me to attend church with her. After she introduced Christ Church at Grove Farm to me in 2017, I was in agreement with the church doctrine and mission statement. CCGF immediately became our church home in which I embraced. This resulted in me growing deeper by attending the Apologetics Class, Men’s Bible Studies, accepting a role in the Passover play as Andrew, attending the monthly Men’s Breakfast, and attending the Encounter Wednesday Night Prayer Services. As my love for God and the church grew, I became a member and started preparing and serving meals to the homeless, ushering, and now greeting with Shelly.
In 2019, God has blessed us once again by having Pastor John Guest marry us in the Chapel. What an iconic moment as the Holy Spirit was present. Shelly and I live in Scott Township and will travel anywhere for Christ Church at Grove Farm. We read the Bible together every morning and tithe the first 1/10th of our day to the Lord to enrich our Covenant. God’s Word is the strong foundation on which our marriage is built. In our next chapter, we believe God is calling us to give back to McKees Rocks. We own a small empty building in McKees Rocks and our passion is to turn it into a Christian Youth Center “Cup of Faith” to offer free breakfast on Sunday mornings while listening to the Word of God by streaming the CCGF Service. We are hoping that this will turn into Bible Studies and Youth Ministries. Please pray for God’s Will to be done.
I am humbly honored to be nominated to serve as a member of Parish Council and eager to discern God’s prompting of CCGF’s current and future vision.
