Canoe Trip – Christ Church at Grove Farm

Canoe Trip

September 10-12, 2021

After a Friday night stay at a cabin near Tidioute, PA we will get our canoes and hit the Allegheny River Saturday morning. We will set up camp on Saturday night and finish the trip on Sunday morning. All men and sons ages 12 and up are welcome. No experience necessary. Total cost is $60 per person.

The trip there takes about 2 hrs. & 15 minutes from CCGF. We will be carpooling. If you’d like to drive for the carpool, please note that on the registration form. Departure times will be 4 PM or 6 PM. Friday dinner is not provided. Eat at home or on the way.  We will be returning by dinner time Sunday. 

It is an outdoor trip, rain or shine.

Please be aware your items will get wet if they fall out of the canoe or if you dump it. All items affected by water should be placed in a “Dry Bag” or heavy-duty contractor garbage bag. You will be carrying your items plus group items in your canoe. 

We will have breakfast at the cabin Saturday morning and be on the Allegheny River by 10 AM on the canoes. The total trip is 16 miles. We will be camping at the 11-mile point on an island. We will be using large tents. We will pack up Sunday morning and after a church service, get on the river and finish the trip in Tionesta, Pa around 1-2 PM. 

Food to be provided includes:

Friday evening snack, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sunday morning breakfast and lunch. 

Items being brought for the group includes:

Tents, firewood, cooking utensils, food, charcoal, Dutch ovens, drinking water, extra garbage bags, first aid kit,  We will ALL help carry these group items in our canoes.

SUGGESTED ITEMS TO PACK:

Outdoor sleeping bag

Any meds you need

Pad for under your sleeping bag

Very small outdoor folding chair to sit on

Shoes for the river and dry shoes for overnight

Non-breakable cup, plate, and utensils to eat/drink with

Flashlight or headlamp

Waterproof phone/wallet case or double Ziplock bags for each

Rain gear (a $3 poncho works for about 3 minutes…) 

Toilet paper wrapped in Ziplock bags

Hand towel, hand soap in a gallon Ziplock

Sunblock/hat

Collapsible fishing gear with Pa license and bait if you want to fish

1/4-inch rope to tie in your gear while canoeing

Warm jacket or long sleeve shirt for the evening

Mosquito repellant

Snack food to share at Saturday night campfire

Wool socks to keep your feet warm when wet

Quick-dry pants/shirt – NO MORE THAN one change of clothes MAX! (Two sets total.) Cotton socks, underwear, pants, and shirt are cold when wet and do not dry quickly.
