My next door neighbor is always inviting me to church and I politely thank him each time, but I haven’t felt compelled to go. He is not pushy or anything and I appreciate that. Yesterday, his wife brought me a plate of Christmas cookies with this card taped to the top. I was curious so I googled the website and read some of the stories. I was deeply moved by all the people doing acts of goodwill and kindness FOR NO REASON. Not for a pat on the back. Not for asking for anything in return. Just because. I almost can’t understand it. But for the first time, and for whatever reason, I just may join my neighbors at church this Sunday. Maybe I’ll find the reason there. And I kind of want to return the kindness to my neighbors. I know it sure would make them happy if I darkened the door of their church.
