Nicole Hartung
Director of Children’s ministries
Nicole is a welcome new addition to our staff as she takes on the responsibilities of all our children’s programs, nursery, and Awana. Nicole is married to Matt. They met at the University of Pittsburgh and Nicole says they were friends for years before they eventually dated and married. They are now the proud parents of two little boys, Benjamin and Lukas.
Nicole came to faith at the age of 12 while on a youth retreat. She went on to obtain a BA in Religious Studies, and has been taking masters level courses at Pfeiffer University and Trinity School for Ministry. And, if anyone would like help with some Spanish translation, Nicole studied abroad for one semester in Seville.
Two active little boys and a busy schedule at Christ Church leaves little time for hobbies but Nicole’s needs are simple, hiking, volleyball, hanging out at the park and bubble blowing. Add to that a spiritual life that includes prayer-walking and labyrinths and that’s pretty much a 24 hour day.
Nicole has a Facebook page that she uses to keep up with friends and family, and she gets her daily news from the internet. She calls herself a “devo” junkie, which means that she loves to use devotionals in books, websites and anywhere else she can find them. In her role as a mother she says that her heart has expanded beyond her own understanding and that she sees every child as a precious gift from God. Her husband Matt helps her maintain the spiritual practice of simplicity, and also reminds her to slow down sometimes and just be!
Nicole’s verse to live by is Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
