Sugar and spice and all things nice, that’s what little girls are made of.

Thought for the Day “Do you not know I am a woman? When I think, I must speak. ~William Shakespeare, As You Like It “

Last Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending a Women of Christ Church event, and what a joy it was. For any of you males out there in the “blogosphere”, you should be green with envy when you realize how well women look after other women. Yeah, I know we also do a good job of looking after men, but when we get a chance just to be together and care about each other, we are magnificent. And when we get a chance to cook for each other, well, you should just see the heights of creativity we achieve. We make fancy little cakes with flowers on them; we make delicious little salads, dainty little sandwiches, crisp, crunchy vegetables, delicate fruit salads, and lots and lots of chocolate. I grant you it’s not manly food, but the men weren’t there. So….no ribs, no chunks of red meat, but a smorgasbord of flavor.

So was this actually a Women’s Evening of Eating? No, not really, but the eating was certainly an important part, and so was the fellowship, and so was the opportunity of wearing something summery and pretty, even though it poured with rain; the heavens opened and it came down in buckets.

Susan LeCornu, our director of women’s ministry, is taking a break for a couple of weeks, so we were in the hands of Karen Dionese who was charming and efficient in a floral blazer…sorry men, this is a female report so you will have to understand that we care about what other women wear. Harriet Mitchell who led us in prayer wore a pale green jacket, and Liz Rankin , who gave testimony, had a spectacular necklace. Music was provided by the Christ Church strings and woodwind section, all of whom are women, and it was womanly music!

That brings me to the Shakespearean quote above, and the true and sincere outpouring of Liz Rankin ’s heart and thoughts as she gave a wonderful and very honest testimony about her long struggle to achieve a Godly relationship with her mother. A woman’s relationship with her mother is a very important thing.

So, you missed this one? Don’t worry. We are scheduling another evening for August; more great food, another great testimony and special music. Check the website calendar for more details, put on something pretty and come and join us.
