Well what did you think of the 15th Anniversary weekend? Wasn’t it great? We had hundreds of volunteers, all of whom deserve a great big thank you. If you have a moment to spare, please thank the facilities staff who not only prepared for the festival weekend, but also spent the week clearing up the inevitable ravages caused by 200 children having a screamingly good time at Summer Day Camp. Special thanks also to the print room and graphics staff who produced a ton of informational material and additional thanks to our photocopier (known here as the Starship Enterprise) which only one time needed to be beaten into submission with a hammer and a pair of pliers.
I was at the booth that was giving away iced Ugandan Gold Coffee ... It was delicious. The line for the food was very long, I was hungry, so I drank more iced coffee, and then some more, and then some more, and basically I’ve been wide awake since Sunday night. It’s interesting to see what goes on in the house after the animals think everyone’s in bed. For the record, my dog spends the night moving from chair to sofa and back again just to be certain that he is making an even distribution of hair and mud, the cat spends the night watching the dog, and every time the dog vacates a chair, the cat occupies it, adding more hair to the general mess. There is a raccoon who spend the night attacking the garbage cans and being completely ignored by our “watch animals” because they are too busy maliciously shedding their hair on each other and me. There are amorous bull frogs in the pond, and other larger things that splash around, and I have no intention of going to see what they are. And then, joy of joys, we have a nightingale who sings beautifully in the middle of the night. If God had not given me the gift of Ugandan Gold Coffee and insomnia, I would never have heard the nightingale. He certainly does work in mysterious ways surprising us with little moments of joy when we least expect them. .
Several people commented on my post last week about the name of an author. So I’ll give you his name, but don’t blame me if you find the books strange. I only said I enjoyed them, I never said anyone else would. Anyway, his name is Jeffrey Farnol (and he’s long dead) and I think his best book is called Beltane the Smith. If you need a real escape from 21st Century America, this will do it for you.
We are welcoming our new Director of Children’s Ministry next week. We’ll be posting her picture and bio on this website, and she’ll be in church on August 8 along with her family. I know that you will all make her welcome.
