Communications Blog

Is this a riddle? I gave my husband a gift last month. It was the same gift that my father had given to me. It was the same gift that my husband gave to one of our friends. I wish someone would give me the gift again. I think everyone should be given this gift. What on earth am I talking about?
Well, this being a church blog, written by a Christ Church employee, you might think that I am talking about salvation. Certainly it fits the description above, but I don’t think salvation can be communicated through a blog. It’s more of an up close and personal thing. So… no, not salvation. The gift I gave my husband was the name of a really good fiction writer who has written a great many novels. My father told me the name of this author when I was about 12 years old and I spent one summer reading book after book. My husband is now doing the same thing, and so is his friend. What a great thing it is to open the door for a friend and say “Step inside this magical world where your mind will be stretched, your emotions engaged. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will wonder what is going to happen next. And when you’ve finished this book, here’s another one by the same author”.
Joyce Kushon introduced me to an author who has written many books in a series. It was a wonderful gift, but now I’ve read them all. Most of the members of my family are wandering around with their heads in books. Graham is currently adventuring in medieval England with a dispossessed duke. My grandson is deep into the lives of a tribe of warrior cats. My son is in India with Rudyard Kipling and Kim. My daughter is in a ruined mansion with some creepy twin girls. And I’m in the present because I need a name! Does anyone have any suggestions? Can we get a discussion going? Please feel to comment below.
