Haitian Relief Special Offering

The death toll and tragedy in Haiti is horrific.  This Sunday (January 17th) we will take a special offering to be given through World Vision for Haiti.  Please prayerfully consider what God may be asking you to commit to provide relief -- in some measure.  In addition, we continue to pray about what else our Lord may be asking us to do in the coming weeks and months.  I will keep you posted.  May our Lord show mercy to the Haitians and reveal His powerful hand in this tragedy. 

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.   Rev. 21:3,4

Come, Lord Jesus.

I have been reading Nathaniel Philbrick's best selling novel "Mayflower" all about the Pilgrim's journey to America. The stirking thing to me today is that if there is ever a doubt that God's hand is guiding America, all one has to do is reach back into the pages of history to see clearly the hand of God guiding our founding fathers.
What are the chances of an English speaking Native American named Samoset coming in contact with the Pilgrims and being able to speak their language and educate them on the geography and history of New England? What are the chances of the British exiting Boston Harbor for no certain reason allowing the fledgling Continental Army to re-group for further battle in the future? What are the chances that a fog rolls in at the Battle of Yorktown and confuses the British troops and allows Washington's beleagured troops to surround them from the west and the fortuitous arrival of the French in Yorktown Harbor blocking them from the east thus ending with the surrender of Cornwallis ending the 8 year conflict and spawning a new nation!
This is not chance. God's hand is with America. God will continue to be with America despite the current tide of events that causes us all to question the future of our coutry. History is so relevant today. You can't know where you are going in this country if you don't know where we have been.
