I'AM NEW

Grumble, Grumble, Grumble

Grumble, grumble, grumble.  It's easy for us to grumble about this or that, the weather, the traffic, our boss, our spouse, and on and on.  I've done it, I do it, and I'll probably do it some more.  But, one thing I am sure of, grumbling is displeasing to God.  I'm reading through the book of Numbers right now. The book of Numbers is fascinating because it focuses considerable time to leadership and group dynamics.  The Israelites grumbled because they did not have meat to eat and wanted to return to Egypt - a place of enslavement!  Miriam and Aaron grumbled against Moses.  The people grumbled because the twelve who were sent to explore the land said it was inhabited by nations too strong to overthrow.  Korah, Dathan and Abiram grumbled against Moses arguing he should not be the only leader.  God was incensed by their grumbling and put many to death because of their disobedience. When I was in seminary I worked a midnight shift at UPS moving packages in a fast-paced, difficult environment.  I drove one-half hour to get there and typically didn't get to bed until 4 a.m. to catch a few hours sleep before morning classes.  In my first year, I traveled with one other seminarian and everything went smoothly, but in my second year we carpooled with two other seminarians and they began grumbling about the difficulty of the job, the length of the drive, the poor pay, and on and on.  It wasn't too long that I too started grumbling and my attitude suffered.  Within a year we had all quit citing the difficulty of the job.  Grumbling is a poison to any organization.  Are you grumbling?  Are you being dragged down by grumbling?  Take it to the Lord, ask Him for a new heart-attitude, and let Him raise you up.
