Candy canes. Cookies. Cakes. Sweet breads. Pies. Oh so many pies.

This is the season that the sweets come out to play. And what a glorious part of the season it is. No other season brings out baked goods and candies like this. It’s not even close.

In this we are reminded that there is a sweetness to life and its celebrations. There is a sweetness in the sharing of these gifts; a joy that comes from spreading the sweetness to those we love.  So it is with God as well. God delights in the sharing of sweet moments with us - like a sunset, the aroma of honeysuckle in the summer, the giggle of a child. All around us is the sweetness of life that God wants to share with us, and wants us to share with each other.

So let us embrace the sweetness of life in this season by spreading the glad tidings of comfort and joy, as the carol says.

And also pie. God loves pie and so should we.

VERSE: Acts 2:46-47 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Prayer: O God of sweet things, we praise you for the beautiful sweetness of this life and pleasure we get from sharing it with those around us. Remind through the treats of this season that life is good, and life in you is something that cannot be translated, but only tasted. Give us a generous heart to share all the sweetness you have bestowed upon us and allow us to the bearer of glad tidings to your people.
