Adopt a Pastor

The Adopt a Pastor program was founded in 1999 as one of the first initiatives of the Encounter Uganda mission of Christ Church. The clergy of the remote Bunyoro region of Uganda are the footsoldiers of Christ, tranping the dusty and dangerous hightways to bring the Good News to the most remote villages. Because of the severe poverty of the parishioners, most of the clergy to unpaid for months on end, and many receive as little as $120 per year. The spend most of their waking hours digging in their gardens and finding ways to feed and clothe their families and the numerous AIDS orphans who are frequently the responsibility of the parish pastor.

The AAP  program pairs a Ugandan Pastor and his family with a sponsor or sponsoring family in the United States. The sponsors pledge $600 per year to be given directly to the adopted pastor to plant investment crops, to educate the children, or purchase medicines or meet any other urgent need. The program currently has 120 adopted pastors and is under the direction of Dorothy White.
