This past Friday we celebrated the life of a good man, Rev. David MacKenzie who died on September 3rd from heart problems. He is in glory now, in heaven with God, and we have our memories of Dave to hold dearly within us. The memorial service was true to Dave's character who was cowboy at heart and most at peace when he was on his ranch in Wyoming. I suppose it was fitting that he died while at his ranch. Though I only knew Dave for two years, I enjoyed the time I had with him. He graciously offered to have me come out to his ranch and would quip, "For pastor I give a 50% discount, and if you're a pastor from Christ Church, I give another 50% discount!" Dave touched many lives, including mine, and it showed by the throng of people who attended his memorial service.
For each of us today, Dave's passing should cause us to consider how we want to be remembered. Are we impacting the lives of others? Are we showing the love of Christ to others and making a difference in someone's life so that on that day when we are received in glory, we will hear our heavenly Father say, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant."
